FUTBOLLLLL!!!

Sunday, April 18th Katie, Val, Morgan, Kassandra, and I went to an Athletic Bilbao futbol, soccer, game! Before the game started we went to a few bars by the stadium, on our way there we got caught in a huge thunderstorm. The heavens opened up and I was soaked from head to toe. Fortunately it didn't last too long and it cleared up for the game. However, when we walked over to the stadium, Telefonica, was passing out bags of free things like a snap on Atheletic bracelet, a blow up number one hand, and ponchos. It was a little late for the poncho though!

When we entered the stadium, we found out our seats were like on the 5th row on the north side. It was between the goal and the corner, perfect location! I felt like we were sitting on the field. Kassandra's host dad told her later that he saw us on TV at one point! Athletic Bilbao played Zaragoza. It was a strong, good game which Bilbao should have won because they had a ton of shots on goal but they just couldn't follow through. So the final was 0-0.

this is how close we were!

The Final Score

So aspects of a Futbol game:

  1. Everyone brings bocadillos to eat during halftime. I mean everyone!
  2. Athletic Bilbao has a huge fan following. The stadium was practically sold out.
  3. There is a crackling sound that goes throughout the stadium from everyone eating sunflower seeds, pepitas.
  4. Everyone can do this high pictched whistle which they do instead of "booing." It is very high pitched, though, ear piercing!
  5. They even have some similar cheers like the "let's go" clap!
